You will need 5cm zinc oxide, 5cm fixation, 5cm EAB and a roll of electrical tape for this technique.
If you are applying this tape to participate in sport then apply the tape prior to their warm up to allow the tape to slacken.
This technique will provide the inside of your knee with support following injury.
Sit upright with your legs extended and a roll behind your affected knee.
Apply a piece of 5cm fixation tape under no tension around your thigh approximately two inches or 5cm above your knee cap, this will be your first anchor.
Apply a second anchor of fixation tape under no tension around your shin bone just above the thickest portion of your calf muscle.
Next, measure a piece of zinc oxide to connect the two anchors in a diagonal line.
Apply this piece of tape under tension from both ends over the inside of your knee.
Apply a second piece of zinc oxide tape under tension from both ends to cross over the first piece, resulting in a cross on the inside of your knee.
Repeat this process to form three layers of zinc oxide in each direction.
Complete this stage by repeating the original anchors using fixation tape.
Next, use a roll of 5cm EAB tape to form a figure of 8 around your knee under no tension starting from top to bottom ensuring your knee cap is left exposed and the back of your knee is covered.
Finally, use electric tape to close off the tape around your thigh and shin bone under no tension.
You may not be initially able to fully straighten your knee however this will slacken after approximately twenty minutes.
