Self massage to knee, distal ITB and lateral retinaculum (Iliotibial band/lateral retinaculum massage, sitting)

Sit up straight with your affected leg straight out in front of you.
Take some cream on your hands and rub it into the front, sides and back of your knee in broad circles.
After a couple of minutes when the tissues are warmed, run your thumb down the side of your thigh, along the side of your knee cap and across to the middle.
Continue this movement.
