Timed up and go (cognitive task: counting) ("Timed up and go TUG" Gait balance/mobility, with cognitive task, counting backwards)

Before you begin this exercise, make sure there is a clear path of approximately three metres in front of a chair.
You can place a line of tape on the floor to mark this distance.
Start by sitting in the chair.
Think of a number between fifty and one hundred and fifty.
Using your arms, stand up from the chair.
Count backwards, out loud, in threes from this number, as you walk towards the line.
Make sure you walk in a continuous fashion towards the line.
When you reach the line, continue counting as you turn around and walk back to the chair.
When you have reached the chair, turn around, reach your arms back and sit down.
Use a stop watch to time this exercise, starting when you begin to stand up, and stopping when you have sat back down again.
